ABOUT US

The Ecumenical Research Forum (ERF) is aimed at young scholars engaged in ecumenical theology, missiology as well as intercultural theology. The ERF offers an open and international setting for discussing research projects on the ecumenical movement, interdenominational relations, and developments within the churches in the present and past. Once a year, the ERF invites young scholars to its annual conference in Hamburg.

The annual conferences of the ERF

  • provide an open forum for the presentation and discussion of research projects
  • offer opportunities for networking between graduate students, young scholars, teachers, pastors, and priests
  • provide a space for the exchange of perspectives and for gaining inspiration
  • enhance ecumenical formation

Participation in the annual conferences is open to anyone interested in exchanging ideas, discussing research projects, and networking. Discussions are held in English. The annual conferences are organised by the international and interdenominational executive committee, which also arranges for the publication of papers related to the research forum and its annual conferences.

The ERF was founded in 1988 at the Protestant Academy in Iserlohn, Germany, and has since then held annual meetings at the Mission Academy in Hamburg. Since 2000, the ERF has been a member of the Societas Oecumenica, the European association for ecumenical research.
